WARNING Logic9 and EXS mod matrix

I am not sure this has been mentioned in the bug list here on this forum, (maybe not) but I just loaded up a fairly large orchestral template with lots of EXS instruments, I have from version 8 and all of the EXS's modulation matrix settings have had their values reset to zero!! Absolute show stopper... Wiped out!! luckily I didn't hit save and can still fire it up in version 8, Some others have mentioned that their custom loop settings have also been screwed!!

Note to mods: I had a look at the bugs and wish lists pages, but doesn't look like much activity there and this deserves a front page IMO. It has the potential to screw people over in a not so gentle way.

It does sound very nasty, but keep in mind that a problem that happens to one individual doesn't become a "general show stopper" until it happens to multiple people. I don't have any large orchestral templates, but some of those I know with them have complained of other issues (low memory, the main one) but this is the first I've heard of the issue of which you speak.

That's not to say that it's not important, or that it didn't stop your show. But a bug doesn't warrant a general panic until it is generally felt. God knows I've experienced enough odd bugs over the years with various versions of Logic that nobody else has! I would say, this warrants watching, and seeing if it crops up generally.

If it happens to you again, I'd say absolutely make sure you include your song template and attach it to a Logic Feedback response to make sure that the developers have a working copy of whichever template of yours exhibits this. The problem with those bugs that hit us individually (and trust me, I've been there...) is that the developers usually cannot reproduce it on their machine, and need to have the failing project in front of them to try and diagnose the issue.

And lets hope it doesn't happen again!

Hi Orren... I know of many who have discovered this problem and fortunately haven't been burnt.. I also know a couple more who don't participate in the various forums, who have been struck and burnt by this one..
I am generally not an alarmist, but this one hits those with big projects and big commitments, hence my warning!

If you could stop people from falling from a broken bridge into the unknown, wouldn't you put a sign up warning them of the potential.

This IS a big problem and needs to be known about

This is essential as this LUG forum is not officially read by Apple.

I have just checked on my system and in Logic 9, EXS24 matrix settings DO appear to load, though sometimes it seems that the matrix gets "stuck" and doesn't reset when a simpler matrix (instrument) is loaded.

Yes I have filed a detailed report to the Apple feedback link.

Are the matrix settings that you are recalling, custom made in Logic 8? Part of a Logic 8 project, not just a preset/library setting?
Just interested to know what type of matrix settings are effected.... maybe there are some that are left untouched.

I haven't had time to analyse this properly - I just flipped through lots of EXS24 instruments. If I get a chance, I'll report back....

Matt, is this really having an effect on the sound, or is it (I hesitate to say "just") a UI thing? How do the presets look in control view?

Just to add to this, it seems to me to in fact be a UI issue. I cannot say that the sound is changed in patches where the Mod matrix settings are in Logic 9 now showing up as wrongly set to zero. Looking in control mode, they appear OK.

That of course makes it a bug, albeit not *quite* as severe as having those settings really changed. It also means that it would be a mistake to change the settings per hand and then save - that way, they really ARE changed, as opposed to looking wrong, and that would be the nasty side effect of this bug. In any case, let's hope for a very fast fix for this one.
