Legacy Apps Waveburner problem (and a bit of a rant)

I want so much to use WB - it looks and seems like the most convenient, full-featured and Logic-related CD burning prog ever, but now I'm convinced this is the worst application Emagic/Apple ever made.
It's been jerking me around for years, but having just upgraded to Logic Studio 9, and updated to the latest versions of everything in the package, I thought I'd give it another go.
So I open a file I'd made in July this year before I stopped using WB for the 4th time.
It cannot find the audio files (OK, I'm used to this - every time the wind changes it loses file references, AND it takes several minutes to tell me that it has.) So I take it by the hand and show it where the file is. ALL audio files of whatever format are greyed out - there is NO FILE ON MY ENTIRE DRIVE that it will accept. What's going on? Maybe it doesn't like the fact that the file it's looking for is called "Buds I" rather than "Buds I.wav"? I hide the extension to no avail.

Has anyone seen a similar problem, or have any idea what might be causing this?

I haven't experienced problems loading wav files into WB, 16 or 24 bit, 44,1 to 96 kHz all work here. What happens if you just drag them from the finder into the Wave View area?

I can certainly do this with a new file, but then I am having to re-create every WB project instead of simply open them up. I'll try an experiment where I create a new file, then move the source audio around on the drive...

i know this doesn't help your frustration, but i've never had any problems with WB either and I've been using it since its birth. It is bar none, my favorite mastering tool on any platform. Might I suggest you try putting all your audio files for your master in the same folder as the WB file? They may be the first place it looks. Don't put it in a sub folder, place them at the same level. For the record, my WB files are generally in my Bounce folder where the mix bounces are already. I don't always do it this way, nor have I had problems with having sources elsewhere, but on the long shot that this helps, it's worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried this with no success either. It's a pain because almost all the CDs of my work I want to burn are compilations. I keep the audio files organised by nested folders according to category and title, so it took me a good while to get everything moved around to the same level.
Interestingly, I discovered that WB2 files (yes, I've been using it from the start as well) will open with a different "Cannot find file" dialogue which DOES let me point it to the right files, even allowing substitutions. I can't understand why no-one else sees these same problems. I'll file a report with Apple about it & see if there's any response from them.

This appears to be Apple's biggest mistake ever. I've got the Waveburner that came with Logic Platinum 7. I was looking for a mastering program and, voila, I've got one. Except it won't recognize its own files, can't import AIFF files off CD, crashes totally in my laptop that runs 10.5, and if I want to try reinstalling it, I apparently have to reinstall all of Logic, with uncertain results. Of course, Apple's always horrible customer service doesn't even give me a number to call, and even if I found one, I'd have to pay for their non-advice toward fixing their own defective product. I guess I'll have to plunk down $375 on a competing product because this one is worse than the lousiest Windows application ever foisted on a trusting public. I just hope the engineer who dreamed this thing up has been banned from ever working in any field related to computers for his/her lifetime.

Well, my laptop is only about 2 years old. I could upgrade to Logic 9 just to get the Waveburner, I guess, except everything I read on the Web is about how it still doesn't work. I tried to download version 1.6 for that laptop and got an error message saying the download was unnecessary even though the version I had is 1.0.2. So the download failed. When I try to open that Waveburner it won't import any audio files, then it just crashes. I'm an Apple user because I don't want to mess with this kind of stuff. I expect it from Windows. I notice nobody else has any suggestions, either. Thanks for dissing me for not spending even more thousands of dollars on gear, but meanwhile I need to burn a CD. Again, I guess I'll go with the competing product because Waveburner is an EPIC FAIL. And I advise anyone else reading this to do the same. No support, hours wasted, files not recognized, upgrade not possible. Fail, fail, fail.

Couldn't agree more - Apple's worst product.
FYI the original (Emagic) programmer was Alberto Scunio, and I remember discussion when it was new that it was such an amazing feat of programming, apparently because of all the rules he broke?...
Sure hasn't paid off.

Just stop using it. I tried again last month, for the last time.
