Where's the bottleneck?

#1
Hi folks

I'm about to buy an external drive for my MBP 17 unibody.
Any thoughts on where the data bottle neck is when using Logic?
Is the EXPRESSCARD-ESATA route overkill?
I realise that RAM has a big part to play, better to max that?
I'm thinking of keeping the FW800 port free for interface, etc.

Steve.

That is exactly how I have my Mac Book Pro set up for on location multi track recording: an external SATA Drive running through an Express Card, the Firewire slot has one or more Audio Interfaces set up, when necessary, as an aggregate Audio Device. This works well for me.

Put in as much RAM as you can afford!

kind regards

Mark

Spot on!
Thanks a lot.

Your list of gear is way more high-end than I have!
It's good to know though that I'm on the right track and might one day
be running with the big guys ;o)

Kindest regards Mark,

Steve.

I'm just a little guy, but I have a similar configuration at home, an ExpressCard adapter with two hard drives and some extra USB peripherals, and my trusty MOTU UltraLite hooked up to the FW800 port built into the Mac...

Is very stable and I get very good performance...

Bottleneck Uncorked.

Thanks to all for taking the time. Greatly appreciated. Powerful and knowledgable group taking a moment for "the little guy". Many thanks from Scotland.
