Logic Pro 9 Yamaha Audiogram3

I am a new user of logic having been a garage band user, Am using Logic 9 on a new Imac quad core with the Yamaha Audiogram 3 interface.

This may seem stupid but I cannot get rid of the direct sound of instruments I am recording, I can hear the Logic guitar amps and effects but they are always diluted with the dirrect sound.

Have downlosded correct Yamaha drivers of their site makes no difference.

How can I set it up so I only hear the sound coming from the Logic mixer not mixed with the direct signal?

It has nothing to do with the drivers (in all probability).

The way I always do it (albeit on an earlier version of Logic) is just to press the mute (M) button on that channel on the mixer.

There may be an automatic way of doing it on version 9 not sure - but the mute thing is always easy.

You may be hearing the clean guitar from the Yamaha monitoring path. Look for hardware or software setting(s) to adjust there.

Logic normally defaults to Software Monitoring on (found under Preferences>Audio), which would have you listening to/hearing all the active effects in the channel strip you are recording with.

oops! I misread what you said - I thought you were trying to get RID of the Logic desk input sound 😱) lol

In which case you need to sort the balance out between the Logic channel level and the direct level coming out of your sound card thingy as Doug said

More issues, with Yamaha Audio gram 3 I have a digital distortion effect, like a distorting short reverb on every note, most noticeable on the kick drum. every thing sounds kinda dull compared to just using the built in outputs which sound fine. This has occurred since I installed the Yamaha drivers and Yamaha are saying they may have some issues which they are working on........ Looks like a new interface unless anyone has any ideas, reinstalling logic but not hopeful.

Looks like a new different brand interface unless anyone has any ideas, reinstalling logic at the moment but not hopeful.

doesnt sound like its anything to do with Logic - to be honest I wouldnt bother going thru all the hassle of reinstalling it especially if Yamaha are saying they are having issues too.

I have something similar with my Behringer Keyboard controller/audio interface when Im using it on the Mac - not the PC.

I suspect it may have something to do with power from the USB sockets? You could try using it powered if its not powered already.

Otherwise how bout taking it back to the store and getting a refund? Depending on how long you have had it and that Yamaha are saying theres a problem I dont see how that would be an issue with the store (especially if you want to spend a bit more money on something else)

Thank you for the simple fix, I work with Macs all day yet never thought of the USB issue which I have struck before in graphics. The Yamaha interface sucks power and really only works well off a powered hub. But that is the fix, thanks so much.

the weird thing (which is something I checked after I sent that last message is youre using one of the fastest cutting edge Macs available - how is it possible that they dont supply enough power to their USB hubs?

Like I said - I have the same problem you describe with my Behringer - although my Mac is a G4 and 9 years old.

Its not something I encounter on my PC laptop - so I dont understand how Apple could get away with delivering less power to the USB hubs than is necessary. (although like you said, it could just be that the Yamaha has enormous power needs - although I very much doubt that)

(also interesting that Yamaha havent fathomed out that problem themselves too! - I suspect they designed it with PCs in mind perhaps?)
