Logic Pro (X) using the whole recorded comping

Hi Folks

Our band recorded a long session but there was a 'looping region' active (green), so we recorded the whole session in 83 comping files ;-). Is there a way to recover the whole comping recording as one long file?

Thanks in advance,
Peter

Hi there, welcome to the LUG.

If you recorded the whole session in one single pass, (meaning all the audio files have exactly the same starting point), then it should be easy enough. There are a couple of ways to go about this. Probably the most straightforward is to change the mode of each take folder from quick swipe comping to edit. You do this at the left of the upper part of the takes region, click the letter (usually "A" to open a pull down menu. Make sure the last function, quick swap comping, is unchecked. You will then see a scissor icon to the right of the letter. Once you have done this, place the mouse at the lower right edge of one of the region, click-hold and drag it out to the right. This should extend the region out, in effect, "unlooping" it. Do this for each track.

An alternative would be to import them into a new logic project. Create a new project, choose the number of audio tracks you will need, open the project browser over to the right of the main window (standard Key Command for this is F) then go to audio file<add audio file (KC ctrl-f). You then have to navigate to where've on your system the recorded files where saved to, import them, drag them onto the main window. If when you recorded them you used a project built on "package" as opposed to folder, go into the package (right click in the finder, then "show package Contents" then navigate to your audio files. Might make sense to copy them from this location to a newer one, then import as explained above.

HTH, kind regards

Mark

If the takes are exported to tracks the regions on the new tracks can be moved to whichever track and position is acceptable. Basically you get each of the takes freed from the bounds of the take folder.

my pleasure Peter, glad it worked out. I can imagine, you will now always remember to check whether cycle is on or off before starting to record :)

kind regards
