Logic Pro (X) Analog preamp's I/O or direct connection?

I am using a WA273-eq and a LA-610 Mk II and would like some help on the most efficient method to interface these pre's into my MOTU 828es. Is it better to use the I/O and use them as an insert or a direct connection like I am doing now with them interfaced into individual channels and connected to my 12 channel snake. If use them as an insert I/O will the signal be recorded into Logic or do I need to set a bus configuration to record? I am currently using a WA Bus-Compressor via I/O on the output stereo bus.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Logic 10.6., iMac 3.8 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7, 16gigs, MOTU 828es, networked via ethernet to a MOTU 8Pre-es. Warm audio WA273-eq preamap, Warm Audio, 2 channel WA Bus Compressor, UA LA-610 MK II preamp

Outboard gear connected to the preamp Send and routed back into the 828 via an analog input will be routed to Logic. The 828 software mixer may give you other options.

Pre-amp to Send to outboard gear will give you more gain staging flexibility before A/D conversion.
